The Big Green Egg
TIP SHEET: Green Egg Grilling Tips
The Big Green Egg is so foolproof that there really isn’t a need for any special tips. Really—it would be a challenge to burn or overcook food in this magical grill! The accurate and easy-to-read temperature gauge lets you control cooking for the best results.
Here are some general pointers for your best Big Green Egg meals:
- Allow steaks to sit at room temperature for an hour before grilling. Don’t worry about bacteria—since the meat’s outer surface will be seared on the grill, any harmful bacteria will be destroyed. (Hamburgers, though, must be kept refrigerated right up until cooking time.)
- Use an electric lighter or natural fire-starter to ignite the natural charcoal. You never need lighter fluid with the Big Green Egg!
- Clean your Big Green Egg’s outer surface with a damp cloth—the weather-proof glazed ceramic repels dirt and stays looking new. The heat from cooking keeps the inside naturally clean, too, just like a self-cleaning oven.
- Use cedar, hickory, maple or other approved woods to add extra flavor to grilled or smoked food. Look for this wood in the accessories section at your Big Green Egg dealer.
- Speaking of accessories, take a look at the wide variety of items we make for cooking turkeys, breads, pizza, desserts, and many other foods you may not have imagined you could make on your backyard grill. The Big Green Egg really goes above and beyond!
